Alright. I'm sure you know that Funimation has brought the rights to many anime cartoons which, before they were ruined with either crappy dubs or editing, were "mega_hella_awesome". <_<

But yeah, I kinda posted this so you all can bash at those corporate idiots who ruined animes that used to be considered the workings of legends. I don't need to say any names of examples -coughsdragonballzcoughs- but yeah...<_<

Personally, if we should be ranting about a company destroying anime it's 4Kids. What they did to One Piece is absolutely unforgivable.

yeah funimation isn't all that bad. I mean with out them DBZ wouldn't have all that outrageous dubbing, which is part of the reason why i love it XD.

They also did an excellent job with Blue Gender.

I liked the dub, personally I prefer it to the Japanese version. It's just when subbies watch a dub version they tend to be biased towards the original Japanese VAs.

I agree with Ayria. Some shows i think just flow better in english. Like Cowboy Bebop. I can't watch that movie in Japanese cause I got too used to the English voice actors. It mostly depends on which I hear first.

I kinda get tired of some otakus complaining about how they want a "perfect" dub of their favorite anime...'cause I think that's impossible. No dub is ever as good as the original.

Japanese VAs are no different than English VAs, for every good actor/tress there are a number of horrible ones. In fact, now it's hard to find an English dub that isn't at least mediocre. One Piece excluded of course, but we all know 4Kids is the worst thing to happen to animation since Disney decided to make sequels to it's movies.

I thought that DBZ and FMA turned out pretty good, I watched both in Eng and Jap and they're fine, I actually prefer both in english, because that's where I watched them first.

They're better not ruin my DeathNote though.

the only dubs i ever liked were gundam wing, fma, cowboy bebop. ive seen em dubbed and subbed and the dub isnt too bad. well GW was good on the midnight run (remember that? midnight run was the shit... i remember when it first started on saterday nights only)

I'll never forget how stupid I thought one piece was, when I saw the 4kids version... and then how I felt when I saw the unmutilated version.

4kids rapes everything in its path.

I still haven't watched the original one piece or read the manga.

I've heard it's good though.

Ah...dub vs subbed.  That's a topic iself.

While we like to blame Funimation for butchering certain anime it's not really their call.  From what I've seen they're one of the better dubbers I've seen--not the best but among it.

The problem really is the networks that show them.  I believe Funimation has it's own channel and from what I've seen they don't butcher the hell out their anime (I have their on demand counterpart).  But if you see funimation programs on Cartoon Network, then it's butchered to hell.

Why?

Because Cartoon Network's the problem, not Funimation.  When a network orders an anime from a dubber they receive some special treatment.  It can be exclusive airing for their region or special cuts.  It's not Funimation--it's Cartoon Network.

That's why when you see anime on Toonami it tends to be butchered to sweet hell.  While if you see anime on Adult Swim it's not so bad.  Toonami, being more young teen orientated, modifies it's anime to go for a younger audience.  Which means cutting out the swears, darker elements of the plot, and changing the music style. Most of the time Cartoon Network gets the rights to the anime while it's dubbed--so it's almost tailor made to their specifications. (I COULD be wrong about all of this, though.)

In fact...in several anime Funimation exceeds the original work.  Desert Punk (aka Sunabozu)'s dubbed version is MUCH BETTER then the anime.  Albeit they censored a few things but the voices are better.  In the dubbed version, characters wearing the metal masks/helmets have a slight echo and sound as if they were wearing masks/helmets.  The Japanese version, though, they speak clearly as if they were unmasked.

That and sometimes...the Japanese voices are annoying as hell. While dubbing companies tend to whore out certain VAs (Steven Jay Blump -cough-cough-) a lot of Japanese VAs sound exactly the same.  Especially passive/cute type female characters.

And while unrelated--at least they sound like kids in Naruto.  In the Japanese version Shino sounds like a 40 year old man.
