This film just got released last week (although it was completed in 2005, I believe); being a fan of several of Terry Gilliam's films (particulary Brazil), I decided to check it out.

This movie is very "good", but not in that "OMG! This film is Soooo COOL!" way. This is a very twisted (and at times, disturbing) film to watch. There are elements of fantasy and the fairy tale, but it's based more on the imagination of the girl rather than actual fantasy (unlike Pan's Labyrinth). I found the "horror" elements of the movie not in the situations that the girl found herself in (which a majority of reviewers stupidly focused on), but in the mentality of the little girl and her "personas" (which I think Mdot would really get a kick out of ); despite these aspects, the movie is also a comedy (abit a morid commedy) and managed to make me laugh on more than one occasion.

I found it to be unique and fascinating, but it's definately a "love it or hate it" type of film.

Found this out yesterday, but it looks like Gilliam ain't too happy with the transfer that ThinkFilm gave Tideland:
appearantly, ThinkFilm thought that Gilliam's 2:25:1 resolution master of the film wasn't the proper resolution for the film and instead released it out in 1:78:1 resolution (essentially cropped out) in the US - the UK release, released by a different company, used Gilliam's prefered version.

More info can be founded here: http://www.filmick.co.uk/2007/03/thinkfilm-think-they-know-better-than.html
