I liked WATS because it's just so different. I'm a budding animator so when I saw the trailer like this, I had the same reaction that a starved person, stranded on a deserted island would have if you gave them a huge McDonald's cheeseburger.
But anyways,....it's just really cool, and has awesome music, and unique animation. So the Madster likes it.

The randomness of the trailer is what attracted me. Plus the awesome music.

Two things.

1) A Sundance diary where Mdot explained how industry folks were terrified of marketing this film -- I immediately empathized b/c I created a sort of experimental film that would have difficulty finding its market too.

That YouTube video linked me to:

2) the first few seconds of the trailer -- the logo with the emitter graphics and the 8-bit remix music. I immediately thought, "Cool and creative". And that took me through the majority of Mdot's other YouTube entries.

Best,

-Paul

I think someone linked me with a title of "this looks weird" and I was like, no this looks FANTASTICAL.

I showed WATS to my parents and now I live on the street.

Got Hooked since.

1. Some of the background, and charecter artwork is very crazy
2.Knowing it took him about 2 an half years to make itsmile/eek.gif
3.The mixture he had made in this movie to make it Mega Hella Awesome (The St8nime http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a395/z00t_mike/Mdot_Logo2.jpg )
4. I'm a underground person that came along the Tralier an got hooked like that smile/rcain.gif

I actually came to find out about it through Susan and Arin's youtube bloggination (foureyedmonsters).
I checked out Monsieur Strange's youtube and was like "sklomg!!" and have wanted to see WATS ever since, because I haven't yet. The Ultimate Sacrifice is also amazingly romantic.

To think if I didn't go on YouTube that day I might have never known about this movie and we wouldn't have a board to be strange on.  o.o; Interesting though, eh? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a395/z00t_mike/INSAN02.jpg

Yes, actually that's how /I/ found out about it >__>;
Why did I click on the video?
Because a pic of Blue as the thumbnail for the video, combined with the title 'We Are The Strange' made me think... hmm... cool new anime? Anyway, after watching it I was like... WHOA O_O
Teh end.

I definitely liked the style of the animation and the video game influences. Anyone interested in animation or modern film making should be interested in this film.

The style is amazing.

The music is nostalgic, and i'm going to listen to more mega_8bit

I love "cult" films, like Donnie Darko, and any film that will make me think for awhile if fucking awesome.

MdotStrange, you have captured a life long fan.

I think that a really really important thing to remember when you make a truly original piece of art is that there may not BE an already established market.... otherwise, an already established market is an indicator that your work is not truly original i.e. Sundance Film, Box Office Hits, etc.  And being truly original is NEVER a bad thing, it just means that you have to make people understand why it's important and thus, build a market of your own.

I'm getting into animation, so I'm researching all decent animation I find. But what really got me interested of course was the trailer that got featured on Youtube. After that I watched Mdot's "Film Skool" vids, and what he said just reinforced my confidence in my beginning ventures into animated filmmaking.
Also the complexity of the 3D backgrounds and CGI was nothing short of, well, FUCKING AWESOME!!!
